Tech Tuesday: New Software Helps Small Businesses Get—and Stay—Organized
November 25, 2014
There’s an interesting new web-based software service designed for those of us who are self-employed (or run a small business). I haven’t put 17hats through its paces yet and while it’s not designed specifically for photographers, it seems to have more than enough features to keep photographers organized and running full speed ahead.
The interface is intuitive and it’s easy to figure out how to access—and use—the various components starting with an Overview that gives you a quick, at-a-glance list of important tasks such as email, overdue invoices, etc.
Twelve main modules cover all the bases, from bookkeeping through “To Do” lists. But, like any organizational software, it’s going to take you a little time to set up properly, especially since you’ll want to sync your calendars (iCal or Google), import your contacts, design some templates, set up contracts, send quotes and more. The software can be linked to your bank account and clients can make payments via credit card, PayPal or Stripe. You can also design custom questionnaires for clients and potential clients.
With promises of more features to come, 17hats currently has special pricing that’s guaranteed for life. There’s a free 15-day trial and, after you sign up, you can cancel anytime. But give the free trial a whirl to see what you think and how it fits into your business.
